Always looking ahead.
helping people achieve their body contouring
goals with our innovative science-backed
technologies.
Our story started with popsicles.
1970
In 1970, two doctors coined the term “popsicle panniculitis” in the New England Journal of Medicine. Their research highlighted that some infants who frequently sucked on popsicles developed dimples in their cheeks, suggesting a link between the cold and fat loss.
Freezing away fat cells works.
And we’re
the only ones who do it.1999
In 1999, two scientists at Harvard University were inspired by this research. They spent years developing and refining an innovative and safe way to selectively freeze and destroy small pockets of fat cells, without damaging the skin or surrounding tissue.
2009
This process of cryolipolysis, what we now know as CoolSculpting®, first became FDA-cleared in 2009 to treat stubborn fat. “Cryo” means “cold” and “lipolysis” means “to break down fat.”
CoolSculpting® is the treatment doctors use most for nonsurgical fat reduction.
Continuing to innovate.
2010
After initially establishing the safety and efficacy of CoolSculpting® for treatment of the flanks in 2010 and the abdomen in 2012, our R&D team continued to develop new applicators for treating additional areas of the body.
Expanding our portfolio.
2019
CoolTone®
We also introduced CoolTone®, a noninvasive muscle toning treatment to strengthen, tone, and firm muscles. This technology—developed by musle science experts and informed by leading athletic performances—uses magnetic pulses to trigger strong muscle contractions that your body could not otherwise achieve on its own.
2021
CoolSculpting® Elite
In 2021, we introduced our most advanced technology, which allows patients to treat two areas at once, with the CoolSculpting® Elite machine.
